20 Years of Building Baskets

As Easter approaches, many of us look forward to the tradition of filling colorful baskets with candy, toys, and treats for our loved ones. However, for families in need, this joyful holiday can often feel out of reach. This year, why not consider sharing the spirit of Easter with those who are struggling by building Easter baskets for the needy? It’s a meaningful way to give back to the community and bring hope and happiness to others during the holiday season.

Those in need receiving Easter baskets are shown through others that the community cares and that they are not alone in their struggles.  Each basket is not only filled with candy and small toys, it contains a bookmark explaining what Easter is about in a story of Jesus’s resurrection.

Any individual, group or family can make or purchase an already made Easter basket.  Thanks to the support of the generous individuals in our community, past efforts have been very successful.

We would like to distribute several thousand baskets to needy children in our community.  To reach our goal, we will need as many people as possible to make this effort a reality.

Please join us in providing Easter baskets for thousands of needy children.  You can build a basket yourself (see instructions below), drop off an already made basket, or make a contribution to the effort online at: svdbpr.org and we will build the basket for you.  This is a great project for church groups, schools and clubs to get involved in.  For more information, call us at (225) 373-7837, ext. 201, or visit us on the web at svdpbr.org.

With a little creativity and thoughtfulness, anyone can make a basket that will bring smiles to those who receive it. Here’s how to get started:

Build a Basket Instructions for a Happy Easter

  • Lots of love and prayers.

  • A new or gently used basket.

  • Easter candy of all sorts. (No peanut products, please.)

  • Small toys, stuffed animals, crayons, coloring books, a 6-to-7-inch Chocolate Easter Bunny, etc.

  • Wrap the basket with Easter cellophane.

  • Drop your gift off at our St. Vincent de Paul main charitable campus located at 220 St. Vincent de Paul Place or at Catholic Arts and Gifts located at 6184 Florida Blvd.

We hope you share this information with family and friends.  These children have very little and something as simple as an Easter basket can create a wonderful memory.
