A meal can do more than satisfy hunger. It can create a connection, offer comfort, and remind someone that they are valued.
That belief is at the heart of Neighbors at the Table, St. Vincent de Paul of Baton Rouge's new volunteer program that invites community members to purchase, prepare, and serve meals for guests staying in our shelters.
Building on the legacy of our longtime Manna Givers program, Neighbors at the Table continues a tradition of hospitality that has been part of the SVDP mission for decades. The new program places a greater emphasis on relationship, inviting volunteers not only to provide a meal but also to share their time and presence with the neighbors they serve.
Church groups, families, businesses, civic organizations, and friends can participate by planning a meal, shopping for ingredients, preparing the food, and serving it to shelter guests. While the commitment is simple, the impact can be profound.
For guests, a thoughtfully prepared meal can offer a sense of normalcy, dignity, and welcome during a difficult season. For volunteers, it is an opportunity to encounter neighbors in need, build community, and put faith into action in a tangible way.
As St. Vincent de Paul continues its mission to Feed, Clothe, House, and Heal, Neighbors at the Table provides a meaningful way for supporters to become part of that work. Through a shared meal, lives are nourished, relationships are strengthened, and community is built—one table at a time. To get involved, go to https://www.svdpbr.net/volunteerÂ
