St. Vincent de Paul of Baton Rouge Announces Hiring for Enhanced Guest Advocate Role

St. Vincent de Paul of Baton Rouge is introducing the Guest  Advocate, a new staff role that enhances shelter care and supports people experiencing homelessness with dignity. The design of this role is more than a new title for existing and new staff members; staff will now be trained and encouraged to better meet residents’ complex needs by focusing on advocacy and relationships, ensuring that every voice is heard and every need is supported

The Guest Advocate offers hands-on, mission-driven work with good pay, benefits, and growth opportunities. SVDP seeks empathetic communicators who serve others with dignity. Experience in social or customer service is helpful. Candidates must work well under pressure and use a trauma-informed, solution-focused approach.

Guest Advocates are steady points of contact for residents. They help keep the shelter environment positive,  assist with routines, connect guests to resources, and address urgent needs. The role emphasizes trauma-informed care, de-escalation, and clear communication to build trust and ensure safety.

“Our guests deserve more than just supportive services; they deserve to be seen, heard, and empowered,” said Sunnie Johnson-Lain, President and CEO of St. Vincent de Paul of  Baton Rouge. “The new Guest Advocate role strengthens our commitment to walking alongside our neighbors in need, helping them to become the best versions of themselves..”

The Guest Advocate role reflects SVDPBR’s commitment to welcoming each person with compassion and dignity. Join us in implementing this update and actively support shelter guests as they move toward greater stability and hope. Visit www.svdpbr.net/careers to apply.
